Shallow Your Swing and Promote an Inside-Out Path for a Draw

Inside-Out Draw Path

This drill uses both halves of the pathpal to create a guided swing path, forcing the golfer to shallow the club from the inside and promote an exit path to the right, ideal for hitting a draw. It also helps improve centeredness of contact.

Alignment Sticks Required: 2

How to Set Up the PathPal

Rear pathpal Setup (Shallowing Guide):

  1. Place one half of the pathpal directly behind the golf ball.
  2. Insert an alignment stick into the 20-degree slot of this pathpal half.
  3. Position the alignment stick so it hovers directly above the golf ball at that 20-degree angle.
  4. Tee up the golf ball so it's directly below the tip of this hovering stick.

Front pathpal Setup (Exit Path Guide):

  1. Place the other half of the pathpal in front of the ball, positioned to the right of your target line (for a right-handed golfer).
  2. Set this pathpal half to a 65-degree angle. This stick will guide your desired exit path to the right.
  3. Confirm Alignment: Ensure the setup allows for a swing that passes under the rear hovering stick and then exits to the right of the front stick without contact, if executed correctly.

Step-by-Step Drill Instructions

  1. Drop and Shallow: As you begin your downswing, focus on dropping your hands and shallowing the club. The primary goal is to swing under the first (rear) angled stick. This forces the club to approach the ball from the inside.
  2. Avoid Obstacles (Approach): If you swing over the top or too far outside, you will hit the rear hovering stick. If you "heel" the ball (and thus the club comes too far inside and upright), you might also hit this stick, providing immediate feedback on centeredness of contact and swing path.
  3. Exit to the Right: After impact, focus on an exit path that moves out to the right, avoiding the front pathpal stick.
  4. Add Closure (Optional for Draw): Combine this rightward exit with a slight closure of the clubface through impact to promote the desired draw shape.
  5. Slow Practice First: Begin with very slow swings to ingrain the feeling of shallowing and swinging from the inside, and exiting to the right.
