TrueStrike Pitching Connection Drill

Stop Being "Handsy" and Master Your Pitching Rotation

Focus Short Game

Drill Objective

This drill utilizes the TrueStrike training aid, placed between the forearms, to enforce connection and stability during the pitching motion. It encourages the use of proper shoulder and body rotation, preventing the common fault of becoming too "handsy."

Practice Plan

Set it up. Run the drill. Know what to feel.

Use the steps below to build the same station every time, then make focused reps with clear feedback.

Set Up

  1. Place the TrueStrike device between your forearms, just above the wrists.
  2. Grip the club as normal, ensuring the device remains securely in place.

Run The Drill

  1. Take your pitching stance, ensuring the TrueStrike is keeping your forearms connected.
  2. Execute practice swings and pitches, focusing on turning your shoulders and body.
  3. The device forces your forearms to stay stable and move in connection with your body rotation, eliminating excess wrist/hand action.
  4. Practice until you feel the body rotation driving the swing, rather than the hands.

My name is Brent Witcher. I'm here at The Back Nine in West Midtown, and I'm using the TrueStrike by pathpal.

The Problem This Drill Fixes

This is a really good drill if you're struggling with your pitching. A lot of times you'll see players get really handsy — they're not turning properly, and their forearms aren't stable enough through the shot.

The Setup

Place the TrueStrike between your forearms, just above the wrists. You've probably seen other products designed for this, but what I like about the TrueStrike is that it gives you a little bit of play — it's not completely rigid, which makes it more natural to use.

What It Forces You to Do

Keeps the forearms stable and prevents independent rotation of the hands

Forces you to use your shoulders to drive the swing

Keeps the arms connected to the body throughout the stroke

The Feel

I'll show you here — back and through, easy pitching motion. You can see I'm utilizing body rotation while keeping the forearms nice and stable. The hands aren't doing anything extra. The shoulders are controlling the motion from start to finish.

That's the feel you're after in every pitch shot.
