The Putting Isolation Drill

Master the Putting Stroke by Isolating Your Upper Body

Focus: Full Swing

Drill Objective

This drill uses the TrueStrike training aid placed between your biceps, just above the elbows, to physically connect your arms to your upper chest and shoulders. The goal is to enforce an upper-body-only putting stroke, keeping the lower body completely still.

Set-Up

  1. Place the TrueStrike training aid in between your biceps.
  2. Position it just above your elbows.
  3. Adjust the setup so the TrueStrike is roughly level with your sternum (breastbone).
  4. Grip your putter as normal, ensuring the training aid is held securely by your arms against your chest.

Instructions

  1. Focus on making a putting stroke using only the movement of your upper chest, shoulders, and upper back.
  2. Concentrate on keeping everything below the TrueStrike (belly button down) completely still.
  3. Hit putts while maintaining this isolation, focusing on making the same repeatable motion for consistent contact and roll.
