The TrueStrike Outside-In Fade Drill

Correct an Excessive Inside-Out Path and Hit a Controlled Fade

Focus: Full Swing

Drill Objective

This drill addresses the less common, but equally detrimental, flaw of an excessively inside-to-out club path. It utilizes the TrueStrike training aid (or a similar object) placed inside the target line and slightly behind the ball. This acts as an obstacle to force the golfer to steepen their downswing path and swing slightly outside-in, resulting in a controlled fade (left-to-right curve for a right-handed golfer).

Set-Up

  1. Place the TrueStrike training aid (or a similar object) on the ground.
  2. Position the object inside the target line and slightly behind the ball. This location is where an excessively inside-out swing path would strike it.
  3. Address the ball with a slightly open club face (relative to the path) to encourage the fade ball flight.

Instructions

  1. Focus on making a downswing where the club head travels just outside your hands at impact.
  2. Swing through impact with an outside-in path, aiming to miss the TrueStrike aid on the inside.
  3. A correct swing will avoid the aid and produce the desired left-to-right ball flight (a fade).
  4. If you hit the object, your swing is too far from the inside, which is the fault this drill is designed to correct.
